What is PAT testing?

"Portable appliance testing" commonly known as PAT testing is an inspection within the UK and other counties where electrical appliances are checked for safety, each test carried out is a visual inspection of the appliance and all flexible cables, also verification of grounding (earth wire) continuity and a test of insulation between parts carrying current and any metal that is exposed that could be touched by the user.

Is it a legal requirement?

UK law requires all electrical systems including electrical appliances are maintained to prevent anyone getting harmed.
